A fatal collision between an SUV and a semi-truck occurred on Portland’s Highway 30, also known as Northwest St. Helens Road, in the sweltering afternoon of Monday, June 10, 2025. This tragedy resulted in one fatality, with another person seriously injured.
Portland Fire & Rescue (PF&R) reported that the incident took place on the southbound approach from Highway 30 toward the bridge.
According to the Portland Police Bureau, an SUV collided with the rear of a semi-truck that had slowed or come to a stop. Both the SUV driver and a passenger suffered serious injuries and were hospitalized; the driver later died. PF&R (via KGW) noted that two dogs were also in the SUV, but they were unharmed. Local Portland News station KPTV Fox 12, provided the following video of the deadly truck crash.
The semi-truck driver remained at the scene and cooperated with authorities. During the investigation by the PPB Major Crash Team, all lanes of Highway 30 north of the Northwest Bridge Avenue intersection were closed. The Oregon Department of Transportation warned that the closure could last for several hours, advising drivers to postpone travel, seek alternate routes if possible, reduce speed, and exercise caution around emergency personnel in the area.
